We at OZC are big advocates of many fruits and veggies on the following list…..However, obviously, buy certified organic and from local growers whenever possible…
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) publishes an updated Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce each year, ranking produce based on USDA pesticide residue data.
The Dirty Dozen (Buy Organic When Possible)
These conventionally grown fruits and vegetables tested highest for pesticide residues and toxicity, often retaining multiple chemical residues even after washing or peeling.
- Spinach (#1 highest residue by weight)
- Kale, Collard & Mustard Greens
- Strawberries
- Grapes
- Nectarines
- Peaches
- Cherries
- Apples

Note: Green beans and bell/hot peppers fell just outside the top 12 list, but EWG notes they carry high individual pesticide toxicity, making them high priorities for buying organic as well.
2. The Clean Fifteen (Safe to Buy Conventional)
These produce items tested lowest for pesticide residues. Nearly 60% of Clean Fifteen samples had no detectable pesticide residues at all.
